Seminar 0 - Go or No Go!

At Seminar 0 I took the jury through my proposal and explained to them the reasons I thought the Ritual of Disguise was a relevant idea to my practice as mastery and in the context of education. The methods and elaborate processes that were undertaken to arrive at the study were described in detail. An action plan of how the next few months will be used was also presented. The jury feedback post the seminar was as follows - Proposal: Aparna’s inquiry stems from her desire to understand how Indian performative traditions offer methods that could serve as tools to develop a more egalitarian pedagogical environment, between a teacher and student. The feedback given to her pointed out - - What does “unschooled” mean in terms of Indian performative traditions? - As you inquire between Eastern and Western paradigms of experiencing art how do you slow down and enquire into that 3rd space/ transformative powers/time/understanding of the experience? - What is the purpose of sheddi

Emboldened by the findings from the interview with Naveen and the scholarship I was building by engaging with readings, I set out to write my prosposal for the Ritual of Disguse. The proposal went through 3 drafts before it articulated with clarity what my practice for mastery would entails and hopes to achieve .

Primary Research - Interviewing Naveen Andrews

As the idea of Rituals Of Disguise began taking shape, I wanted to ascertain if my assumptions and broad ideas had any potential, to validate my thoughts I interviewed Naveen Andrews, an actor from Hollywood who happened to be visiting India In Deecmber. Manifesto for Practice as Mastery

After working on the Portfolio, a Personal Manifesto of practice was drawn out which identified areas and concepts that I would like my practice for mastery to engage with. By this time the Ritual of Disguise was beginning to gradually emerge as an idea, an inkling and a faint murmer....

Arriving at Portfolio of Practice

The Ritual of Disguise began taking shape in early October, 2019. The process of arriving at this idea began with the curation of a Portfolio of Practice which identified my interests and nature of prior practice.
